16 suspects held for PKK terror links in eastern Turkey

At least 16 people have been arrested for their links to PKK/KCK terror group in eastern Agri province of Turkey, according to a regional governor's statement on Friday.

The arrests came after police conducted simultaneous raids in the city center and Dogubeyazit district, it said.

Two out of the 16 suspects were remanded in custody while seven others were released pending trial, it added.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
