US stocks open higher as volatility, dollar falls

Major indexes in the US stocks market opened higher on Thursday as indexes are trying to recover from their three consecutive days of losses.

The Dow Jones was up 45 points to 33,941 at 9.34 a.m. EDT (1334GMT) with Coca-Cola and Microsoft adding 0.3% and 0.7%, respectively.

The S&P 500 added 16 points, or 0.4%, to 4,134 with Tesla rising 1.3%. The Nasdaq soared 93 points, or 0.7%, to 13,392 with Twitter, Netflix and Zoom Video adding more than 1% each.

All three indexes had fallen three consecutive days last week to recover in remaining days of the week, as investors wonder if that could be the case this week.

The recent increase in indexes came after VIX volatility index fell 5.1% to 21.05 level, and they could have room to increase further if volatility would fall below 20.

US dollar index, which shows the strength of the greenback against a basket of six other major currencies, dipped below the psychological threshold of 90 with a 0.3% loss to 89.91 right after opening bell as investors have started to move liquidity into stocks.

After plummeting for three days in a row and falling to as low as $29,563 on Wednesday, Bitcoin was trading above $40,000 at the time.
