US pop star Pink has expressed support, and offered to pay the “sexist” fine imposed on the Norwegian women’s beach handball team for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms at a recent game in the Euro 2021 tournament.
“I’m very proud of the Norwegian female beach handball team for protesting the very sexist rules about their ‘uniform’. The European handball federation should be fined for sexism. Good on ya, ladies. I’ll be happy to pay your fines for you. Keep it up,” she said on Twitter.
The European Handball Federation (EHF) fined the Norwegian team over their bronze medal match against Spain in Bulgaria on July 18, saying the players’ shorts were “not according to the athlete uniform regulations.” The team has to pay €1,500 ($1,767).
The team thanked the 41-year-old singer on Instagram, saying: “Wow! Thank you so much for the support.”
Meanwhile, the Norwegian Handball Federation (NHF) has announced it is ready to pay the penalty.
