UPDATE – Turkish stocks down at Thursday close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 1,415.03 points, down 0.84% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,426.55 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 12.03 points from Wednesday’s close of 1,427.06 points.

During the day, the index’s value hovered between 1,411.46 points and 1,428.87 points, with 66 stocks on the index falling and 29 rising compared to Wednesday.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 998 billion Turkish liras ($118 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 17.87 billion Turkish liras ($2.11 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by Turkish conglomerate Net Holding (NTHOL), cement producer Konya Cimento (KONYA), and food company Ulker (ULKER).

Shares of Net Holding climbed 5.17%, while polyester producer Sasa (SASA) struggled the most by losing 4.5%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,898.50 by market close, down from $1,910.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $68.99 per barrel as of 6.28 p.m. local time (1528GMT).
