Turkish stocks up at midweek opening

Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,438.92 points on Wednesday, rising 0.10% or 1.46 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was up 0.34% to 1,437.46 points, with a daily trading volume of 14.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.7 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 8.6180 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, up from 8.6080 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate slightly increased to 10.0860 from 10.0800, while one British pound traded for 11.9350 Turkish liras, versus 11.9530 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for $70.67 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
