Turkish stocks flat at midweek opening

Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,465.28 points on Wednesday, slightly falling by 0.04% or 0.61 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was up 0.45% to 1,465.89 points, posting a daily trading volume of 13 billion Turkish liras (nearly $1.5 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 8.4010 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), up from 8.4130 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate slipped to 9.8630 from 9.8840, while one British pound traded for 11.5560 Turkish liras, down from 11.5750 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for $70.18 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
