Katie Ledecky of US seals Olympic gold medal in women’s 1,500 meter freestyle

US swimmer Katie Ledecky claimed gold in the first-ever women’s 1,500-meter freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.

Ledecky finished the race in 15:37.34, followed by Erica Sullivan of the US, who won the silver medal with a time of 15:41.41.

Germany’s Sarah Kohler came in third with 15:42.91.
