Maps dating between 1550 -1865 on display in Larnaca

An exhibition of maps depicting Larnaca and the Eastern Mediterranean, part of the collection of the Historical Archives of the Municipality of Larnaca, is on display at the former Ottoman Bank building in the coastal town. Antigoni Perentou-Vavatsinioti, curator of the Historical Archives of the Municipality of Larnaca told CNA, "the exhibition is part of the large collection of maps of the municipality's archives. 'The collection consists of 110 maps, and 17 maps dating from 1550 to 1865 are exhibited in the space', she said. She added, "only a small selection of maps was put on display to attract people to see what the Historical Archives of the Municipality of Larnaca holds'. Most of the maps in this exhibition, said Vavatsinioti, concern both the gulf of Larnaca and the Eastern Mediterranean, including Greece, Turkey, and Egypt', noting that there are also nautical charts of Larnaca gulf. She said this is the second exhibition taking place at the former Ottoman Bank building and more will follow. The next exhibition, she continued, "will depict the Larnaca waterfront'. All exhibits are included in the Historical Archives of the Municipality of Larnaca, which is a collection that began to be created in the early 1980s and has been continuously enriched since then. The exhibition is open until the end of September and admission is free. Opening hours are Monday-Friday from 0800 until 1400.
